We are seeking a motivated individual to join our Utilities team based out of our Gaston,SC facility. The ideal candidate for the Utilities Technical Specialist position focuses on the treatment and management of contaminated process water, overseeing systems to ensure safe and sustainable water resources. Ensuring that wastewater treatment systems and practices adhere to environmental regulations and standards. Navigating federal, state, and local water quality standards and discharge permits (e.g., from the EPA or DES) is crucial, requiring close coordination with regulatory bodies throughout. Additional duties include monitoring and control of a Fluid Bed Incinerator maintaining CISWI compliance and annually mandated training for Utilities staff.  

Responsibilities

The Utilities Technical Specialist will be reportable to the Utilities Manager and have responsibilities for the following tasks: 
  • Daily, weekly, monthly, annual reporting and monitoring of Industrial Waste Water Treatment Plant (IWWTP)
  • Operational control of IWWTP
  • Operational control of Filter Water Plant  
  • Operational control of Fluid Bed Incinerator and CISWI Regulations 
  • Redlining of Drawings, Reading P&ID’s, Creating MOC’s, Advanced Troubleshooting 
  • Leading Utilities Area Projects and continuous improvement across the site 
  • Landfill management practices 
  • Title V air quality reporting and monitoring monthly/annually  
  • Working with the environmental group on various projects and issues 
  • Capital project creation, management and implementation  
  • Troubleshooting process issues and problems 
  • Training all operators annually for CISWI, CE, IWWTP Operations and process changes 

Skills & Qualifications

Required  
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools for design and analysis 
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations, standards and reporting 
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team 
  • Level “A” or Class I Biological Wastewater License in South Carolina 
  • 5 years’ experience in wastewater treatment or large manufacturing facility 
 
Preferred 
  • Bachelor’s Degree (1-5 years’ experience in wastewater/environmental compliance) 
  • Experience in a manufacturing facility 
  • Process Safety Management experience 
  • Experience with SAP 
  • Experience with Distributive Control Systems 
  • Proficient with Word, Excel, Adobe, Falcon, Bentley View, and Microsoft Office Suite
