We are seeking a motivated individual to join our CA - Columbia site's Operations team based in Gaston, SC. The ideal candidate for the Material Handler possesses a safety mindset while using a high degree of ownership and accountability to support plant operations by shipping finished product and unloading raw materials in a continuous manufacturing process environment.
Responsibilities
The Material Handler will be reportable to the Shift Supervisor and have responsibilities for the following tasks:

- Load trucks and railcars with finished product.
- Perform break down and set up of raw material railcars.
- Operate an engine locomotive, shuttle wagon, track mobile, and fork lift.
- Collect samples of product from the top and bottom of railcars and trailers.
- Process bill of ladings, COA’s and load sheets for shipments
- Use computers, scanners, and manual entry to input data.
- Complete a rail yard inventory and input updated information into computer database
- Communicate between scale gate, co-workers, and truck drivers via radio and telephone.
- Perform general housekeeping.
- Serve on the plant ERT (Emergency Response Team)
- All other duties as assigned

Job Skills/Educational Requirements:
- Associate’s degree in a related technical field or a higher-level qualification (preferred)
- 2+ years of experience as a chemical operator or handler in a manufacturing environment
- In-depth understanding of fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, pressure systems, and computerized control systems
- Excellent safety record and ability to meet the qualifications to be on Emergency Response Team
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills and a strong commitment to safety practices
- Proficiency with computers and software applications
- Demonstrates a high level of professionalism, including reliability, discretion, and the ability to represent the company positively in all interactions
- Self-motivated, with a positive attitude and ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Must be clean shaven to ensure proper fit and seal of respirator equipment
- Must not be afraid of heights and working in elevated locations on pipe bridges
- Ability to sit, stand, and move for extended periods.
- Must be able to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl
- Ability to work 12-hour rotating shifts.
- Must be able to work scheduled and unscheduled shifts, including short-notice hours on off days, as needed to meet business requirements.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced, physically active environment.
- Work is performed in a chemical plant and industrial setting with typical manufacturing conditions.
- Work may involve exposure to loud machinery, temperature variations, and other industrial hazards.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required, including hard hat, hearing protection, eye protection, and steel-toe boots (at minimum).
