Responsibilities

This Lab Technical Analyst, in addition to keeping skills up on all routine and Water Lab testing, has Technical Staff responsibilities for key instrumentation and will perform up to 3L level.  For example, these may include but are not limited to:  
  • Serve as a safety role model including participation in Day Staff Safety Meetings, safety observations, safety improvements, and performing safety equipment inspections 
  • Prepare water lab and other solutions 
  • Perform calibrations 
  • Distill Phenol / TCE 
  • Run HTM_PET test 
  • Analyze special samples 
  • Troubleshoot and/or setup instrumentation 
  • Create and edit procedures 
  • Interact with Maintenance 
  • Inventory supplies 
  • Support other Alpek sites 
  • Execute continuous improvement projects 
  • Work with lab instrumentation vendors 
  • Participate in quality audits 
  • Interface with corporate resources 
  • Act as primary or backup responsible technical owner for lab instruments 
  • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned as business needs require 

Skills & Qualifications

  • Capable to perform all Alpek Quality Lab jobs up to 3D level 
  • High school graduate or equivalent 
  • Basic chemistry understanding 
  • Understanding of precautions needed to work with hazardous chemicals 
  • Exemplifies Alpek culture behaviors, leadership, and teamwork 
  • Trainer capabilities 
  • Computer proficiency including Microsoft, SAP, and LIMS and specialized lab software 
  • Flexibility in work schedule to include needed overtime, weekend work, and off-hours calls 
  • Dependability 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills  
  • Technical, mechanical, and analytical math skills 
  • Willingness to travel and attend classes 
  • Love of learning and ability to pick up new skills 
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow safety rules, instructions, and procedures 
  • Ability to create and edit technical documentation including procedures 
  • Time management and prioritization skills 
  • Ability to rapidly adapt and respond to changes in environment and priorities including multitasking 
  • Good organization and communication skills (verbal and written English) 
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Preferred: 
  • College level science or similar classes 
  • Training experience 
  • Supervisory or leadership experience 
  • Audit experience 
  • Public speaking experience
