We are seeking a motivated individual to join our Maintenance team at our Gaston, SC facility. The ideal candidate for the Control Systems Specialist role will be results-driven, thrive on technical challenges, and use strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills to provide Electrical and Instrumentation support and drive continuous improvement at the site.
Responsibilities
The Controls Systems Specialist will report to the Electrical Engineer and have responsibilities for the following tasks:
- Provide plantwide technical support for Electrical and Instrumentation systems.
- Troubleshoot complex instrument and controls equipment beyond Maintenance E&I capabilities, including:
- Inverters
- Coriolis flowmeters
- Analyzers
- Loss-in-weight feeders
- Nuclear level devices
- Instrument-related, electrical, or unknown-origin problems
- Manage hardware/software for Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) in critical manufacturing facilities.
- Update .pdf drawings using Bluebeam for obsolete equipment replacement or error corrections during maintenance/capital work.
- Initiate, execute, and review Management of Change (MOC) processes as needed.
- Maintain databases for Instruments, Power Panels, and Critical Controls.
- Review engineering packages related to Electrical and Instrumentation equipment.
- Participate in Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) to ensure safety and compliance.
- Execute projects and communicate progress through the Project Reporting System/Database.
- Develop maintenance and troubleshooting procedures, train non-exempt E&I staff, and lead shutdown efforts for critical devices.
- Monitor technology for obsolescence and recommend long-term solutions, including critical spare parts risk assessments.
- Prepare high-voltage systems for contractor work, including:
- De-energizing equipment
- Installing protective grounds
- Monitoring contractor safety procedures
- Respond to emergency situations (e.g., power outages) to minimize property loss and maintain life safety systems.
- Install, operate, and maintain electrical equipment, including:
- Primary power distribution/transmission cables
- Portable engine generators
- Transformers
- High-voltage switches
- Ability to splice and terminate various types of high voltage multiphase power cable.
- Perform installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of high-voltage systems (up to 13.8KV) and related low-voltage equipment, including distribution and generation components such as transformers, generators, circuit breakers, controls, and underground conductors

- 5–10 years of industrial manufacturing experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Strong troubleshooting skills
- Strong advocate for safe work practices
- Proven leadership and organizational skills
- Self-starter with a high level of initiative
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented industrial environment
- Ability to manage diverse customer needs effectively
Preferred
- Associate Degree in Applied Science – Industrial Electronics Technology or equivalent
- 3–5 years of experience in chemical, paper, or polymer industries
- Experience with SAP, OSISOFT-PI, CAD software, tsaADVET (Falcon), and Bluebeam
- Maintenance planning and scheduling experience
- Working knowledge of Root Cause Failure Analysis
