As a Sustainability Intern, you will work from our Charlotte, NC office and play a crucial role in supporting the environmental, social, and economic impact behind our sustainability objectives and projects. Your attention to detail, communication, and analytical skills will be utilized to research trends and collect/ analyze data so that you can determine the most effective materials and strategies to assist the team in developing and implementing in alignment with achieving our corporate sustainability goals. This internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain firsthand experience and exposure to the industry standards, environmental regulations, and business operations behind global sustainability programs.  

Responsibilities

The student selected as the Sustainability Intern will work at our US Headquarters located in Charlotte, NC. Students will have the opportunity to collaborate cross functionally with other personnel and teams to accomplish their assigned projects and tasks including:

  • Data collection & analysis related to the company's energy usage, waste generation, water consumption, carbon footprint, etc.
  • Manage sustainability metrics and help track progress against corporate sustainability goals.
  • Assist in preparing sustainability reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders (e.g., annual sustainability report, ESG reports, etc).
  • Help track and document compliance with environmental regulations, corporate sustainability policies, and industry standards.
  • Conduct research on industry sustainability trends, innovations, and best practices.
  • Provide insights into new sustainability initiatives, technologies, or strategies that the company could implement.
  • Assist in the execution of sustainability programs such as onsite and offsite renewable energy projects, waste and water reduction programs, etc.
  • Help organize and support sustainability events, workshops, and awareness campaigns (e.g., Earth Day events, company-wide sustainability challenges).
  • Assist in communications with external stakeholders, such as customers, suppliers, or partners to advance sustainability efforts.
  • Develop or support internal training materials and workshops about Sustainability.
  • Provide administrative support for sustainability projects, including scheduling meetings, preparing materials, organizing data and coordination of resources.
  • Stay updated on evolving sustainability regulations, standards, and certifications e.g., carbon reduction laws, waste disposal regulations).

Skills & Qualifications

Education:
  • Currently enrolled in a degree program related to sustainability, environmental science, business, public policy, or a related field. i.e. (environmental studies, environmental engineering, business sustainability, environmental sciences, or similar)
  • Availability to work full time (40 hours/ week) for the 3-month duration of intern assignment

Experience:
  • Internships, volunteer work, or coursework related to sustainability.

Skills:
  • Project management abilities: Familiarity with managing projects or tasks, working with teams, and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to research sustainability topics, industry trends, regulations, and best practices as well as to analyze data and assess environmental, social, and economic impact.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for creating reports, presentations, and internal communications.
  • Knowledge of sustainability frameworks: Awareness of global sustainability standards such as the UN SDGs, ESG criteria, the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), etc.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Passion for sustainability!
