We are seeking a motivated individual to join our CA - Columbia site's Procurement team based in Gaston, SC. The ideal candidate for the Strategic Procurement Capital specialist position will be results driven and motivated by challenges; they will use excellent contracting, negotiation, analytical research, and interpersonal communication skills to accomplish their primary responsibilities of sourcing of Equipment, MRO and Services for Capital Projects and key categories required by assigned Alpek Polyester US and Canada site(s). As a Strategic Specialist they lead procurement efforts within the project management team and support the purchase of capital equipment, materials, and site services required for Corporate and site key projects to be executed in the organization.

Responsibilities

The Strategic Procurement Capital specialist will be reportable to the Procurement Leader and have responsibilities within the following key areas:
  • Manage and drive any or all safety requirement(s) to be fulfilled in the purchasing of capital project materials and services by our suppliers.
  • Active involvement as Procurement resource in assigned Capital projects from beginning to implementation.
  • Negotiate capital project materials and services, including labor, by properly balancing price, quality, services, delivery, payment terms, and any other commercial key term(s).
  • Be able to effectively develop and manage comprehensive contract negotiation(s) covering all facts of a purchase agreement, while ensuring legal and ethical requirements are met to minimize risk to the organization so site(s) accomplish Corporate or Division objectives.
  • Effectively develop and manage assigned contracts.
  • Develop and execute procurement strategies and negotiations for assigned categories.
  • Analyze categories’ markets, number of suppliers, competitiveness, financial performance, business activities, negotiation history, cost drivers, to support effective decision making, negotiation planning, and to reduce supply chain risk.
  • Work with site users, buyers, and corporate functions personnel to identify, plan, and execute continuous improvement opportunities to optimize cost and processes.
  • Develop and maintain long-term supply partnerships to find ways to optimize cost.
  • Lead requests for quotations and requests for proposals, as needed.
  • Provide training support as needed.
  • Drive Alpek Polyester’s Procurement Policy compliance.

Skills & Qualifications

Preferred Background and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain, or related field.
  • Professional certification in Procurement, Supply Chain or Project Management preferred.
  • Sound knowledge of purchasing principles, ability to research, analyze, and close various types of purchase efforts within the guidelines of good business and ethical practices.
  • Strong negotiation, problem solving, analytical and time management skills.
  • Excellent relationship management skills.
  • Ability to operate efficiently in a fast-paced, challenging environment.
